Distance Education is instructional delivery that does not constrain the student to be physically present in the same location as the instructor. When students are spread over a geographical region, learning is considered to be distributed. Distance learning means that the instructor and learner are not in the same physical location. Therefore, distributed learning is inherently distant, but distance learning is not necessarily distributed. |

| A classroom setting is created with the use of various technologies. The learning outcomes of a course are identical regardless of the delivery method. Students are not expected to do less simply because they are not in the presence of their instructor. In fact, most students are surprised to find that taking a course online can sometimes require more work than they anticipated. There are an additional set of skills required to partake in such a class. One may need to know how to chat online, send email attachments, or create web pages.

| The greatest challenge for the distant student is the self-discipline that is required to complete the tasks and assignments associated with course objectives. Convenience is probably the number one reason why students prefer taking courses in this nontraditional mode. Most course material can be reviewed, practiced and disseminated on your own time and at your own pace. This is why self-discipline is so crucial. |
