OFFICE OF DISTRIBUTED LEARNING

ODL Profiles - June 2005

Stacy Magedanz

Reference Librarian

Stacy Magedanz joined the John M. Pfau Library faculty in January 2000, and soon after became the library liaison for the Title V grant program, which developed an online Nursing degree program, improved the campus distance learning (online and videoconference) infrastructure, aided over 150 faculty in the development of online courses, developed electronic advising at 10 community college sites, and developed a distance learning site at Victor Valley Community College. She continues to act as the library’s point person for distributed learning. Her focus at CSUSB has been on the use of online information tools. She has served as chair of the library’s web committee, chair of its electronic resources evaluation committee, and was a representative to the statewide “EAR” committee, which evaluates electronic resources for all libraries in the CSU system. Recently, she has been participating in ODL’s online teaching seminars, showing faculty how to link to library content from their online course pages.

“Sometimes the amount of online information can be overwhelming. I hope to make faculty aware of the many high-quality resources the library has to offer in support of their courses. I also want to help students realize there’s more to scholarship than just Google; there’s a whole other world of research information waiting for them through the library."

" As facultyand students increasingly look to the internet for answers to their questions and to meet their academic needs, I want them to know that the library has someone not only able but pleased to help them with their efforts and encourage them to contact me."
