Teresa Cotner Assistant Professor, Art EducationIn Spring 2002 Dr.Cotner converted the existing framework and assignments for Art 395 into an on-line class. Art 395 "Art in the Classroom" is part of the Liberal Studies program preparation for the multi-subject credential. The class is taught with a series of Power Point presentations, readings, skill-building art projects, all culminating in a lesson plan. Teaching online has proven itself very effective in achieving these goals. Students receive a focused introduction to the concepts , as well as closely directed projects and assignments and feedback. Just as importantly, they have the opportunity to discuss their reactions in ways that extend their understanding. All this while being able to do so at times and locations more convenient than a physical classroom. |
"In teaching pre-service teachers, both Liberal Studies majors who plan to pursue a multi-subject credential and teach elementary school, and Art majors who plan to pursue a single subject credential in art and teach middle or high school, my main focus is to familiarize them with the language of art in order for them to be able to break down and talk about art with future students." |
