Ellen Gil-Gómez

Assistant Professor, English

Dr. Gil-Gómez began developing fully online courses in 2002-03. Since that time she has developed and offered English 323 Chicano/a Literature, and is currently developing both Humanities 450 Aspects of Chicano/a Culture and the GE course English 170 Studies in Literature which will both be offered this academic year. In the works for next year is the first fully online course in Women's Studies: Women's Studies 420 Feminist Theory. Dr. Gil-Gómez is particularly committed to offering courses in Chicano/Latino Literature and Cultural Studies to a wider regional audience but also hopes to continue to expand the offerings in other programs, such as Women's Studies, as well. She is currently working with the coordinators in Women's and Ethnic Studies programs on course development and hopes to play an essential part in creating fully online minor programs in these areas in the near future.

" I have been very pleased by students' desire and ability to explore the materials that I, and other students, bring to the course. I've certainly expanded my own knowledge of areas that we just don't have the time for in the traditional classroom and I've routinely been amazed by my students' creativity in research, artistry, and written analysis. Somehow, the online format allows the student to see beyond judging their own ideas as isolated and limited. . .suddenly the whole world is the classroom.'"
